THOUSANDS more Victorians will have access to solar panels for their homes when new rebates come into effect in July.
The next phase of the Andrews Government's scheme will kick off from July 1 in a bid to install solar power on 770,000 properties in Victoria over the next decade.
Under the revamped program, 3333 rebates will be rolled out to homeowners each month through the online portal.
Owner-occupier homes valued at less thank $3 million with a combined income of less than $180,000 are eligible.
Premier Daniel Andrews said installations had been capped to ensure safety standards and provide retailers with time to prepare for a surge in business.
"This is a 10 year program but it has to be done carefully," he said. There is very significant interest but I think Victorians understand there's no good trying to rush this and run hundreds of thousands of installations every year only to find out corners were cut with safety."
This financial year, 2000 rental properties also will be eligible for rebates on agreement between tenants and landlords.
Mr Andrews said it was estimated the average household would save $900 a year on power bills.
